3 Day Weekend

We all need a break. So, in addition to remembering our fallen heroes, take some time to relax.
Perhaps a delicious dairy treat.

Or grill something good. Like... bacon. Mmmmmmm.

And, after the house settles down for the night, raid that refrigerator, Dad!

But whatever you do this Memorial Day weekend. Do NOT operate an automobile in an impaired state.

Bad Form Turns Into Grave Insult

Many tongues are wagging about Lordy O deciding against laying the Memorial Day wreath.

It seems more than a bit disrespectful, especially given that he's commander-in-chief of forces who are currently in shooting wars. But Captain Cool has turned bad form into a complete insult by sending Slow Joe in his stead.

Geez, sending The Burger King would be better than Slow Joe. Maybe Joey can bring Walter Mitty Blumenthal in from CT to tell the gathered folks some somber, heart-wrenching stories about his days over in 'Nam.

Honestly, the President of the United States can't bother to haul his frame over to Arlington?

Could've Been worse

A Major League Baseball player has been attacked and injured by the team's mascot. Sort of. It's not like Grady Sizemore was attacked by Chief Wahoo or anything. Milton Bradley wasn't slapped silly by an old sailor or a moose either. No, a Tampa Bay Ray was stung by a real honest-to-goodness swimming in the ocean ray.

He must be happy they're no longer the Devil Rays!

Little-Noticed Disasters

William A. Jacobson points out on his site, Legal Insurrection, that there are quite a few "little-noticed" provisions cropping up in Dear Leader's Glorious Healthcare for All The Workers law.

From 4th To 1st

In March Rasmussen Reports found that in the Republican primary race for Governor of our state Nikki Haley was out of the running in 4th place with 12% support.

Thursday they released their latest data and Haley has jumped to a double digit lead over the field. So... what happened in the meantime? A few things, but chiefly, this:

If no candidate reaches 50% in the June 8th primary election the top two will be in a run-off.

Woody Calls For The Rise of Benito Obama

An elderly left wing American film director/ actor calls for Obama to formally become a dictator.
We're sure he isn't alone in Hollywood longing for fascism, but he's the only one (so far) dopey enough to actually say it out loud in public.
UPDATE: A gum-bangin' yelper at MSNBC screams for Lordy O to nationalize the energy industry-- starting with firm owned in the UK!
UPDATE 2: After twelve years and a trillion dollars in nationalized oil revenue, Hugo Chavez is nationalizing more of Venezuela and the people are poorer than ever. No coincidence that.

Big Demographic Shifts

Way back in the fall of 1971 I went off to college. At that time 61% of all degrees awarded in the USA went to men and 39% went to women.

Last Saturday I attended the graduation of one of My 3 Sons. Now, nationally, 59% of all degrees awarded are going to women and 41% go to men. The projection for 2019 is a complete reversal of the 1971 statistics with 61% of degrees going to women and 39% going to men.

Why the change? I surmise it's mainly for two reasons. First, women are encouraged more to aspire to an education and those careers that require a degree. But as powerful a reason is the rise of a computerized, high tech world. I think that many men graduating from high school see that there are decent paying careers available for them in technology that require a tech school education rather than a traditional college degree program.

Beyond these two reasons is a bigger, looming issue-- the roles of men and women in modern Western Civilization. Those roles have changed a great deal, as have birth rates, since I set out for college back when Nixon was in the White House.

Charlotte Is Hoppin'

NASCAR Hall of Fame Grand Opening

The same week that the NASCAR Hall of Fame opens in Uptown Charlotte, NC the city is hosting 70,000 people for the NRA convention. It will be the biggest convention to hit Charlotte in the history of the town. Maybe the big crowd is because of the guest speakers... Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, Newt Gingrich, Oliver North. Maybe.

Tax Cheat Geithner Endorsed GM's Fraudulent Claim

Two Congressman have written to the latest head of General Motors to inform him that the current ad campaign he stars in may constitute fraud. They advise him to cease claiming that GM has marked paid-in-full to their debt to the taxpayer. Of course, nothing could be further from the truth.
